The Mead Educational Trust Given Go Ahead to Open Another School in Leicester

We’re thrilled to announce that the Department of Education has announced that we have been approved to open another new 11-16 secondary school in Leicester.

The new school, which will be called Brook Mead Academy, will open in 2022/23, offering 1200 secondary school places.

Carolyn Robson, Chief Executive of The Mead Educational Trust said: “We are thrilled that our application to open a new school in Leicester has been approved. Brook Mead Academy will be based on the successful model already employed at Rushey Mead Academy, which has been judged by Ofsted to be outstanding since 2007. The school’s 2018 results saw it placed in the top five per cent of schools nationally. Brook Mead will promote a knowledge rich academic curriculum as well as replicating the care, creativity and inclusivity seen in all The Mead schools, which, over time, is leading to strong outcomes for all.”

“The Mead family of schools is deeply committed to ensuring that all young people, particularly the most disadvantaged, receive a first class education. We believe that Brook Mead Academy will be a great addition to Leicester’s family of schools, providing city children with an excellent rounded education.”

Brook Mead Academy will draw upon the expertise developed in setting up Castle Mead Academy, which is set to open in September 2019 and has already successfully recruited its first cohort of pupils ready to start at the King Richard III site. A high calibre staff team has also been appointed, eager to seize the opportunity of starting in a brand new school.  With Castle Mead Academy, The Mead Educational Trust is already bringing to the city innovative approaches from successful schools in other parts of the country. With Brook Mead Academy, more parents in the city will be able to access this successful style of education for their children.

As part of the plans, we would like to hear what the community wants out of a new school and will hold a number of consultation events. For more information and to register interest please visit or call 0116 214 3148.
