“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” Martin Luther King.
At TMET, we are proud to serve and represent the diverse communities that we have in our schools. We also take very seriously our duty to ensure we do all we can to bring about positive change in the world, encapsulated in our motto, Together we Make a Positive Difference. It is with deep pain and sadness that we have witnessed recent events in Minneapolis in the USA, knowing that we are all, once again, having to live through and try to understand the most disturbing of events.
Our collective grief is compounded by the fact that our pupils are not with us in our schools so we are unable to help them process the pain, anger and incomprehension that they must be feeling. We are now even more determined that when we return fully to our schools, we must strive for better, not just return to “normal.” Now more than ever we want to embrace the diversity within our Trust and our city. We acknowledge our privilege and the struggles of others and commit our work to ensuring that we help to shape the next stage of society through our pupils and their achievements. As a Trust, we endeavour to be better, be self-reflective and be dynamic in our approach to moving forward together as one.
“No one is born hating another person because of the colour of his skin or his background or his religion. People learn to hate and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love for love comes more naturally to human heart than its opposite.” – Nelson Mandela
