Outdoor transformation inspires young learners at Kestrel Mead Primary Academy
After six months of careful planning and collaboration between staff, parents, and specialists, Kestrel Mead Primary Academy is celebrating the completion of its EYFS Outdoor Project.
Thanks to community support, including a series of fundraising events throughout the year, the school raised over £9,000 to bring the vision to life. Over the summer, skilled tradespeople worked alongside dedicated Kestrel Mead staff volunteers and community helpers to create an inspiring, high-quality outdoor learning environment. The space features role play, small world, water, creative, planting, and activity spaces that have been designed to encourage play, exploration, independence, and conversation. It also uses natural materials, bespoke staging, and colourful sensory decorations to nurture curiosity, creativity and confidence – ultimately helping every child to develop a lifelong love of learning.
Zoe Simpson, Principal at Kestrel Mead Primary Academy says: “We spent a lot of time researching at both local and national level to determine what would be best for our children, and over summer we have brought it to life. It’s been a real community project with staff and community volunteers working alongside trades to bring it together. The outdoor EYFS area will allow children to excel, to have more opportunities for interactive talk and independent play, and it also supports our mission to achieve excellence, belonging, and equity for all students.”
